Why Your NIN or BVN Verification Might Fail

If your NIN or BVN verification fails on Pouchers, it’s usually due to a mismatch or incorrect information. Here are the most common reasons and how to fix them:

1. Your Details Don’t Match Your NIN or BVN Record

Your name, date of birth, and phone number must match exactly with what is on your NIMC (for NIN) or bank records (for BVN).

A verification failure may occur if:

  • Your name is spelt differently

  • Your name is not arranged the way it is on your BVN

  • Your date of birth doesn’t match

  • The phone number linked to your NIN/BVN is different

  • You recently updated your details with NIMC or your bank

How to fix:

Update your Pouchers profile information to match your NIN/BVN record, or contact NIMC/your bank to correct the record.

2. Incorrect NIN or BVN Entered

Sometimes the verification fails simply because the NIN or BVN was typed incorrectly.

How to fix:

Double-check the digits and try again.

3. Your NIN Is Not Yet Active or Synced

If you recently registered your NIN, it may take a few days to sync with NIMC’s central database.

How to fix:

Wait a little and try again later.

4. Network or Server Issues

NIMC or the bank verification service may experience temporary downtime, which can cause your verification to fail.

How to fix:

Try again after a few minutes. If the issue continues, reach out to us.

5. BVN Not Linked to Your Phone Number

If the phone number on your BVN is not active or doesn’t match, verification may fail.

How to fix:

Visit your bank to update the phone number linked to your BVN.
